Original Deerington Application

• Additional Adjustments to include:
  • Will was in Deerington briefly in the spring-summer of 2018, during which time he met and bonded with Eddie, Shiro and Chloe. He then returned home for about a year, before returning in August of 2019. He could recall his previous time in the town, and recognized the few people he'd grown close to who were still present. He was also reunited with his best friend, Mike Wheeler, who was from the same time as him, but had been in Hawkins for several months. He moved into a house on Castle Road with Mike, Steve Harrington, Billy Hargrove and Dustin Henderson -- a house which would have many residents over the following 2ish years.
  • In 2019, he was on Team Rabbit in the dome, which culminated in him turning into a literal rabbit, something that would repeat multiple times during his time in Deerington. During the October blood waves, Will was trapped in a car with Eddie and ended up being unable to escape, drowning during his one and only death in the town. After returning, he became more focused on protecting himself and his friends, and began learning to fight using a sword and a shotgun. Several people took on paternal roles during this time -- namely Steve and Shiro, but also Frank, who employed Will at his diner, Jessie (the cowgirl doll) who comforted the part of him that was still just a kid, the group living at the cabin (Wrench, Grady, Kurt and Logan) and Lucille, who met Will at midnight on New Years Eve, and was with him as the room they were trapped in flooded and sent them to the Titanic.
  • Starting out 2020, Will was a 3rd-class passenger on the Titanic, who only recovered his memories of the real world after witnessing Mike drown (which was great, awesome, seriously). They resurrected in Rapture, and a red-string-of-fate event prompted both boys to finally confess their feelings for each other. Once back in Deerington, Brianna moved into Casa Hawkins, adding some much-needed girl chaos to the house of boy chaos. Will's brother Jonathan, Steve and Billy all disappeared in spring and summer, leaving the younger teens to fend for themselves. The grief from this resulted in Will turning into a Thunderbird around his birthday and brutally murdering some townspeople. He eventually changed back, but that rage remained somewhere buried in his chest throughout the rest of his time in Deerington. Later in the summer of that year, Mike was possessed by a demon, becoming a shell of his former self. Though Will eventually helped drive the demon out (through the power of friendship!) it was of course emotionally traumatizing to see someone he loved so much in so much pain. Will himself ended up transforming into a monster in October, retreating to somewhere locked away in his mind, too hurt and horrified by the constant loss and pain of Deerington to want to come out. Eventually, of course, Mike found him and coaxed him to come back, and Will decided that whatever time he got with the people he loved would have to be enough.
  • In 2021, Brianna disappeared, and the Hawkins house grew emptier and emptier. Will's mother, Joyce, arrived in town for the first time and Will had to reconcile the many months without her, and try to figure out if he was still the son she knew. In February, his tenuous control over the fragments of the Mind Flayer still in his mind finally snapped, and he returned to a possessed state, during which he attacked and hurt multiple people, and eventually killed his mother. Shiro and Reaper were able to destroy the Mind Flayer, but the guilt and horror of what he'd done haunted Will for the rest of his time in Deerington. Things grew darker and darker towards the summer, with Will ultimately destroying his egg along with Mother Superior's, resulting in a huge fight with Mike, who'd unintentionally caused the death of Peter Graham and Parker. With the city crumbling around them, and the unknown ahead of them, the boys decided to return to Hawkins, since there was less danger there and they wouldn't have to watch each other die (hopefully). Will bid a tearful farewell to his friends in town and he and Mike returned to their world through the mist.
  • About nine months passed in Hawkins, during which time the years in Deerington remained real and vivid to both boys, as well as Nancy and Joyce (eventually). They decided to try and make the most of what they knew, namely in trying to prevent Billy and Hopper's deaths, while keeping their relationship a secret. The events of Stranger Things season 3 occurred with slight alterations -- Mike and Eleven weren't dating, so there was much more time for the group to be together as a group, Will had less of a focus on clinging to his childhood, as he'd processed losing that in Deerington, and there was the not-so-subtle tiptoeing around the whole "Mike and Will are together" thing. When the Mind Flayer returned and possessed Billy, events quickly spiraled out of control -- having only gotten Steve and Billy's perspective of what happened, Will and Mike were unable to stop the inevitable. Billy ended up dying, as did Hopper, and the Byers were set to move to California. Their efforts had done nothing to change the timeline, and only served to make Mike and Will more determined not to be separated. They finally turned to the antlers that had appeared months before, and decided that whatever Deerington held had to be better than never seeing each other again...
