Do you want to explain this to me sometime? I'm afraid I don't know much about magic.

For Joyce

[personal profile] radioshacks 2017-12-18 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ Bob knows that it's hard for Joyce raising two boys virtually all on her own and Lonnie -- well, he's not been a good father and he certainly hadn't been any good to Joyce. So, knowing she was worried and afraid he did everything he could. That evening, he'd brought over dinner and a bit of a silly kids movie that probably was too juvenile for Jonathan but he thought that the older boy would at least appreciate that Bob had carefully attempted to pick something that Will would especially like.

Now, the evening had progressed, the kids in bed (Will asleep, Jonathan probably not). ]

How are you feeling?
mommabear: (jfc save me)

[personal profile] mommabear 2017-12-19 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
[Joyce had been tense at the beginning of the evening, arms crossed tight over her chest, wearing that false half-smile she managed when she was especially anxious. Both her kids had picked up on it, too perceptive for their own good, Will staying close to her like a tiny watchful shadow, Jonathan arching both eyebrows when she mentioned Bob was coming over. Still, her tension had abated with every second Bob was there. He just had that effect on her, gentle and earnest, a rock of solidity in the chaos of her life.

The movie is ridiculous, and Joyce finds herself laughing more than she'd anticipated she would, sitting nestled close to Bob's side. Will had seemed to like it as well, and she even caught Jonathan cracking a grin a couple times. Dinner had been good too, something she hadn't had to worry about throwing together at the last minute, and the boys hadn't grumbled too much about doing the dishes.

Now she's sitting on the couch, wine in one hand, fighting the urge to stand up and go check on the kids for the fifth time. She looks reflexively at the hallway, wondering if the shadows she sees moving are real or just figments of her imagination. Then she looks at the door, waiting for the drunken knock that she got so familiar with when Lonnie still lived here.

Bob's question makes her jump a little, immediately turning red and hiding her face in one hand.
] Better, I promise. I'm feeling better. I'm just...I don't know. [She doesn't know if she's more scared of demogorgons or her ex. Both seem equal threats just then.]
radioshacks: (poet71)

i'm sorry i'm slow as molasses lately

[personal profile] radioshacks 2018-01-09 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Bob doesn't ever judge Joyce for any of her fears or worries. He thinks it's natural and he adores her all the more for them. He doesn't think there could be a better lady or mom around. He draws her a little closer after she answers, a soft kiss to the side of her head.

There's only so much that he can do to chase the echoes of monsters away. He wishes that he could do more but he'll do his best in any case. ]

It's going to be alright. [ He doesn't promise, of course. Because he's realized sometimes things aren't alright no matter how good a person you are. ]
